Some models support advanced printing functions (IPDS) while maintaining compatibility with the 4224 Printer and existing 4230 printers. Other models support the SCS (PDS) data stream and are compatible with the earlier IBM 3268 and 3287 Printers and IBM 4214 Printers. Still other models support the IBM Proprinter II XL, IBM Proprinter III XL, IBM 4224, and Epson FX 1050 ASCII emulation.
